Download spreadsheet/s and instructions for data collection from academic year 2008-9 (if you missed the Online version and/or wish to submit staff data which was not included in the 2008-9 online version) and data for Students and Staff for the academic year 2009-10 here. The AUCC Categories of Client Concerns document is also available here for download: A bit of history: AUCC has been conducting a survey/audit of the counselling activity in Further and Higher Education institutions for the past 13 years. Data collection for the academic year 2006-07 was conducted using an online survey facility. Prior to that the survey had been conducted on paper. There is no similar survey that we know of in the UK, and the results have been used over that period to argue for better resources within institutions and to benchmark institutions against the "norms" so demonstrated. Data is categorised using the AUCC Categories of Client Concerns is now in its third edition (Autumn 2009). It provides a series of 16 general headings and 120 more detailed common issues brought to counselling by students and staff within non-statutory educational institutions. It is available free to download for AUCC members from the Members' Area of this website. Non-members can enquire about purchasing a copy - e-mail: Dave Berger The survey was inaugurated by Mark Phippen and Lesley Parker (of Cambridge University Counselling Service), and is now the responsibility of AUCC's Research Sub-Committee, supported by BACP Research department staff. Any comments or queries can be directed to the AUCC Research sub-committee Data for the survey is compiled by institutions from their own statistics, and many use one or more of the following: - a bespoke/tailored database such as "INFORM" (contact Mark Phippen for details),
- "CORE PC" (for those who use the CORE System to help with Risk Assessment and/or service quality development). There is a users' group for those that use "CORE" - if you would like to join, e-mail unicore-request@jiscmail.ac.uk
- their own in-house database or spreadsheet application (MS Access, MS Excel etc.).
We actively seek to encourage as many relevant institutions as possible to participate in our surveys whether or not they presently belong to AUCC/BACP. Data collection for Student and Staff Counselling in the academic years 2008-9 and 2009-10 is currently in progress (Autumn 2010) and will remain "open" till Christmas 2010. Contact Dave Berger if you need help or have any queries on how to contribute data.
